AP® English Language and Composition

During this AP English Language and Composition for New Teachers @ Hawaii APSI, you’ll explore the course framework, the exam, and the new AP resources that will help you plan and focus instruction—and give you feedback throughout the year on the areas where individual students need additional focus. You’ll also learn about completing the digital activation process at the start of the school year that will give you immediate access to the new resources and will help ensure that your students can register for AP Exams by the new fall deadlines.

By attending this APSI, you’ll gain deeper insight into the following key takeaways, among several others: Understand the Course; Plan the Course; Teach the Course; Assess Student Progress; and Engage as a Member of the AP Community. In addition, specific attention will be paid to the following AP Classroom resources: unit guides, personal progress checks, AP teacher community, and the AP question bank.

DR BRANDON ABDON

Aloha From Dr Brandon Abdon

As an international consultant, Brandon draws on nearly 25 years of varied experiences as a high school English teacher, professor, curriculum developer, instructional coach, and administrator. These include work in diverse schools/districts, as an English/Literacy consultant, and as the director of English at the College Board. A National Writing Project fellow, he champions daily writing in classrooms and believes all students can achieve literacy through engagement.

He has authored textbooks and teacher support materials through AMSCO/Perfection Learning and Applied Practice and collaborates on multiple ELA projects, such as the Expository Reading and Writing Curriculum and the Garden of English. For his efforts both inside and outside the classroom, the National Council of Teachers of English chose him for the “High School Teacher of Excellence” award. He lives in Owensboro, Kentucky, with his family while consulting and serving as a lecturer at Western Kentucky University. When not spending time with his family, he likes to read and play sports, but does both of them slowly and only one of them well.
